"Malevolencia," the third release by Columbia's Rizomas, is conceptually rooted in a great political reaction to the relation of abuse of power, and the negligence and criminal permeability of anti-democratic practices within the institutions of a state. The police/repressive state as an institutional framework generates distrust and encourages actions by people. Rizomas is a side project of Filipo Laresca, who has previously released the digital/tape cassette “(in) digestas” on bugs crawling out of people. With this new release (digital/CD and tape cassette), he has drawn his musical influences from a combination of styles, successfully creating hip-hop rhythms reminiscent of acts like Boogie Down Productions and Company, and flowing into sounds that evoke thoughts of industrialist legends like Vidna Ibmana, Asmus Tietchens, Zoviet France, and David Tudor. The result is a fantastic work with a sense of fluidity that draws one into the noisy chaos with deep beats and catchy rhythms. Constructed entirely analogue, no digital inputs or outputs were used to make this record.
